An Orangeburg prosthetics and orthotics practice has moved into a larger space.

BioLogic P&O LLC has expanded its business to 2664 St. Matthews Road Northeast into the previous offices of Cardiology Associates.

The office is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The business provides prosthetic and orthotic care for patients ranging from pre-operative counseling to assisting with the rehabilitation process after an amputation or a traumatic injury.

The practice also specializes in treatment of physical disability by applying bracing technology to stabilize and restore function.

The business celebrated its grand opening April 19 in its new 2,000-square-foot space. BioLogic had occupied about 1,300 square feet at its previous office on Elliott Street.

Owner and certified prosthetist and orthotist Carey Bunch said the most significant benefit of the expansion is the increase of a gait rehabilitation space. He said there is greater space for ramp and stair equipment as well as parallel bars and support techniques.

Bunch said the new office also provides for more fabrication space for prosthetics as all limbs are built in-house.

“The space also allows improved collaboration with other health care professionals such as physical and occupational therapy,” Bunch said. “It lends itself to improved collaboration with doctors and other medical groups as well.”

Bunch says he will also offer patients educational information on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, noting among the top reasons for amputations are vascular disease and diabetes issues that are common in the area.

As part of his services, Bunch also plans to relaunch an amputee support group that had been in place in the Orangeburg area before the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Bunch graduated from Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School in 1997 and entered the College of Charleston. While in college, Bunch became certified as an emergency medical technician.

He left the College of Charleston in 2000 after doing a summer internship at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he was developing surgical instruments for orthotics.

Bunch decided to pursue the biomedical engineering field and worked in a lab for about a year in Los Angeles at the University of Southern Carolina.

During his undergraduate studies, he launched his career in prosthetics and orthotics, collaborating with Walter Reed Army Medical Center on a prosthetic knee design project.

He continued in this pursuit, earning his post-graduate certification in both prosthetics and orthotics from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He graduated from Northwestern in 2009.

He served his residency in prosthetics and orthotics at the Prosthetic and Orthotic Care Inc. in Fairview Heights, Illinois.

Bunch is a certified prosthetist orthotist with the American Board for Certification in Orthotics Prosthetics and Pedorthics in Alexandria, Virginia.

Bunch is active in his church and has served on medical mission trips in both Mexico, Peru and Guatemala.
