Gerontologist Dr. Macie P. Smith said, “There is a great need for practical education and training in the area of dementia compassionate care practices in the Orangeburg County area. With the prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease on the rise, this community has some real needs. So, the HUGS program will offer both family caregivers and professional caregivers the information and support they need to provide optimal care to those living with dementia, while improving the quality of life for the care recipient and the caregiver.”
