The Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic, this year set for March 22-24 in Columbia, emphasizes the appreciation, wise use, and stewardship of South Carolina’s natural resources through the use of education. This annual event is hosted by the Harry R. E. Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and is sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance of South Carolina.

With more than 40,000 people in attendance each year, visitors can expect live animal exhibits, contests, seminars on various outdoors topics, demonstrations of both hunter and boater safety, and many other vendors, exhibits and activities related to the outdoors.

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division has begun a three-year accreditation process to further strengthen its effectiveness and meet nationally recognized standards.

A special “Meet and Greet” with legendary professional bass anglers Jimmy Houston and Roland Martin will be held the afternoon of Friday, March 22 at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia. These two world-class anglers are renowned in the outdoor TV world. Jimmy and Roland will only be at the Classic on Friday afternoon from 1-6 p.m.

Join the Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic for a special “Meet and Greet” with legendary professional bass anglers Jimmy Houston and Roland Martin on Friday, March 22 at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia.

Also featured at the Classic will be the Hawg Trough, a mobile 5,000-gallon fish tank that is transported to locations around the country as an attraction at boat shows, sportsman expos, fairs, and festivals. SCDNR’s Aquatic Education Pond, a fixture of family fun for more than two decades, returns to the Classic. SCDNR’s aquatic education staff, biologists, technicians, and volunteers will be on hand to help kids catch a catfish at the highly popular activity.
