A pilot was injured when a plane crashed at the Holly Hill Airport on Wednesday.

“Preliminary information indicates the crash occurred after takeoff. There was one person on board,” National Transportation Safety Board spokesperson Jennifer Gabris said Thursday.

The pilot of the Eipper Formance Inc. MXII aircraft was a 45-year-old Orem, Utah man. The aircraft, which is registered in Charleston, is a fixed-wing, single-engine plane.

The crash occurred at approximately 7 p.m., according to a Holly Hill police incident report.

The plane appeared to have crashed into the hangar, damaging both the building and the plane. The officer saw some blood and a bloodied paper towel on the ground in front of the plane, the report states.

The pilot was taken toward an area hospital in a private vehicle. The driver had to pull over in a Dollar General parking lot in Berkeley County.
