A Saturday evening fire destroyed a home on Alva Street, according to an Orangeburg Department of Public Safety fire report.
The fire was reported by a witness at 5:52 p.m. and firefighters were on the scene four minutes later.
The last firefighters left the scene at 7:46 p.m.
The origin of the fire is undetermined and the cause remains under investigation, the report states.
The one-story home measured about 1,188 square feet. At least one half of the home sustained heavy fire and smoke damage.
The report notes that due to lack of hydrants near the home, an ODPS fire engineer shuttled water to the scene with a fire engine truck.
Eight ODPS firefighters responded to the scene. While they were at the scene, firefighters from the Cordova and Rowesville fire departments staffed ODPS stations one and two.

The Orangeburg County Fire District and Jamison Fire Department also assisted with the incident.
The total estimated loss is around $55,000, the report states.
The home was vacant and unoccupied when the fire erupted.
