For eleven years, Orangeburg’s Lanier & Burroughs law firm has distributed around 300 turkeys annually.
The turkey donations not only help with Thanksgiving needs, but with meals for months to come, Samaritan House board Chairperson Brenda Jamerson said.
Jamerson loaded up 30 frozen turkeys during the law firm’s turkey distribution on Monday afternoon.
“It is truly a blessing because we cook them not just on Thanksgiving but all year long,” Jamerson said.
“We have them prepared in all different kinds of ways, but it is truly a blessing that people think enough of the homeless population to help us serve them,” she said.
Orangeburg Area Boys & Girls Club Director Laura Washington was thrilled to receive 10 turkeys to be distributed to 10 different families ahead of Thanksgiving.

According to David Marshall, an attorney at Lanier & Burroughs, each turkey weighs between 10 to 12 pounds.
“We’re thankful to give back to the community, who we serve, when they need us,” he said.
Marshall explained that area churches and non-profit organizations help identify people with the most critical needs in the community.
Including the attorneys and staff, others who helped hand out turkeys were some of the attorneys’ children.
