SANTEE — A Thai restaurant in Santee has opened under new ownership.
The Thai House Restaurant is located at 9086 Old Number Six Highway.
“We need some Thai food in Santee,” owner and chef Arun Maneejan said. “There is no Thai food.”
Maneejan cited Santee’s proximity to Lake Marion, hotels and heavy tourism as reasons for opening the restaurant.
He also noted there are residential developments planned in the area that will draw more traffic.
Maneejan purchased the restaurant from Sam and Tina Chareunsouk, who also served Thai food. The name of the restaurant has not changed.
The business employs six.
The restaurant provides appetizers such as wings, steamed dumplings, crab wontons, and basil and spring rolls to name a few.

The restaurant also has soups and salads. Entrees consist of chicken, pork, tofu, beef or shrimp. All are served with steamed Jasmine rice. Curry and noodle entrees as well as desserts are also on the menu.
There are house specials and beverages to include sodas, wine and hot sake.
The restaurant has dine-in and take-out options. Reservations are encouraged. The restaurant does also cater to large parties with advanced notice.
It seats between 70 and 80.
Maneejan says there are plans to provide a delivery option in the future with Uber Eats and Door Dash.
Maneejan is no stranger to the restaurant business. He opened his first in the late 1990s and currently owns restaurants in North Charleston and West Ashley.
Maneejan says the Orangeburg area is another potential location under consideration.
The Santee restaurant is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
He said they may expand to seven days a week depending on staffing.
