The Taste of Orangeburg highlights the variety of treats available in the community each year. This year it will be preceded by a series of events that show off some of its other cultural treasures.
The 2023 Taste of Orangeburg will feature local restaurants, food trucks and caterers from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, at the Downtown Market Pavilion at 1326 Russell St.
The vendors for this year’s event will include A Sweet Squeeze, Buckridge Plantation, Coffee & Things, Gullah Gardens, Morning Rotary, Ms. Tookey’s, Orangeburg Country Club, Peculiar Pig Farms, Randolph’s Artisan Italian Ice & Gelato and Tulio’s Restaurant and Pizzeria.
“We are so excited to bring Taste of Orangeburg to the community again this year, and even more so to be the closing event of this year’s SC Humanities Festival,” said Ashley Bryan, executive director of the Downtown Orangeburg Revitalization Association.

“We hope everyone enjoys the festival and will support this as Orangeburg County’s premiere fall festival in the years to come,” she said.
The Taste of Orangeburg returned last year after being paused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year it will be led into by the city’s first time hosting the state’s annual humanities festival.
South Carolina Humanities’ mission is to explore the rich heritage of the state and its links to the cultural traditions of the nation and world, according to its website.
In all the years the festival has been hosted by cities across the state, Orangeburg has never been selected until now.
Dr. Isaiah McGee, dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Claflin University, sits on the SC Humanities Board and suggested Orangeburg County to host the festival.
He planned the festival along with Bryan, Meredith Garris with the City of Orangeburg, Vivian Glover with the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center, Dr. Peggy Ratliff at Claflin University and Deandria Bennett at the Orangeburg County Library, Bryan said.
“Together we created the schedule starting with the reception on Thursday and ending with our annual Taste of Orangeburg on Sunday,” Bryan said. “We intend to make this our own annual festival after this year’s event.”
All the events offered as part of the humanities festival will be free, Bryan said.
“We wanted this to be free because we want it to be for the people to see the best of Orangeburg County and hopefully this will spark another initiative that we continue a Fall Festival in this area,” McGee said.
The festival will begin Thursday, Oct. 19, with an opening reception at the Orangeburg County Fine Arts Center and will feature tours of the Edisto Memorial Gardens and historic downtown churches and live entertainment before ending with The Taste of Orangeburg on Oct. 22.
