On Nov. 16, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Beta Zeta Omega Chapter, celebrated the achievements of two female entrepreneurs, Jasmine Owens and Diamond Paull, awarding each a $500 Small Business Award. This recognition was made possible through the funds raised during the 2024 PINKonomy: W.O.M.E.N.’S. Business Expo.

Danette Anthony Reed, the International President & CEO of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, spearheads the 2022-2026 administration under the theme: “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood.” This vision aims to build on the sorority’s legacy by activating a sisterhood of over 120,000 active members to be at the forefront of change, education, and advocacy.
Among the six program initiatives is Build Our Economic Wealth, which includes a focus on Supporting Women Entrepreneurs—the core mission of the PINKonomy: W.O.M.E.N.’S. Business Expo.

Owens, the first award recipient, is the president of the Girls Entrepreneurship and Mentoring Society (GEMS). This nonprofit is dedicated to empowering young women to cultivate leadership and entrepreneurship skills. The organization recently hosted its inaugural Summer Leadership Camp for seven young girls, an event highlighted on Soda City Live and in The Times and Democrat. In addition to her work with GEMS, Owens is a successful entrepreneur, owning World of Jassy LLC, a brand known for its “4 Baddies Only” merchandise and apparel, among other ventures.
Her drive and business acumen have earned her the label of “serial entrepreneur” as stated in The Times and Democrat.

Paull, the second award recipient, is a student at South Carolina State University and the founder of Magical Creations. As a licensed nail technician and esthetician, Diamond is passionate about helping her clients feel refreshed and confident. A remarkable achievement of Paull’s is that she was able to fully finance her freshman year at South Carolina State University using the earnings from her successful nail business.
Dr. Minnie Anderson serves as the initiative chairman and Latosha C. Legree serves as the chapter president.
