This year’s Striped Bass Challenge series concluded with an open tournament that drew 95 anglers from six states on a rainy Saturday, Dec. 2.

The catch-and-release event out of Santee State Park on Lake Marion raised money for the Christian Adoption Service and local food banks.

Winning anglers received cash prizes and merchandise.

Team Blazer won the Striped Bass Challenge event on Lake Marion on Saturday, Dec. 2. Dusty Pearson, center, won Big Fish honors with a 20.7-pounder.

The winning team was Team Blazer. One of its members, Dusty Pearson, won Big Fish honors with a 20.7 pound striped bass.

Local partners included Santee Cooper Country, Santee State Park, and the Town of Santee. The lead sponsor was Bass Pro Shops. There were numerous other sponsors as well.

The Striped Bass Challenge was established with the dual purpose of enjoying the art of striped bass fishing and giving back to the community.

The Challenge is a growing community, with more than 1,200 anglers participating in its events and an average of 400 anglers per event. It raised more than $56,000 for community services and non-profits in a single year.

Its mission includes encouraging children and young people to spend quality time outside and gain a genuine appreciation for our natural resources.

Too, the Challenge champions the conservation of striped bass, promotes the protection of the great outdoors, and promotes the rights of all anglers.
