Rickenbacker Xcel hosted its annual fundraiser for Alzheimer’s on Nov. 25, marking 27 years of doing good in the world.

The group thanked all in attendance and those who donated.

The event wasn’t held in recent years because of the COVID pandemic. But being creative for the past three years, the group held a fundraiser on Gloria R. Hutto Day. She received the proclamation declaring Dec. 17, 2020, Gloria R. Hutto Day in the City of Orangeburg, and they had a drive-by celebration.

On Dec. 17, 2021, the group had a balloon release to raise money for Alzheimer’s and in 2022 a candlelight vigil to raise money and awareness for the cause.

Coffee grounds could be the unlikely key to curing both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, experts in the US have discovered.

The 2023 event was beautifully decorated in silver and purple by William Green of Royal Designs. The cake even had purple roses on it.

Participants enjoyed good food, dancing and had Tina McCollum as the guest speaker. The host and emcee for the event was William Green and James McQuilla, president of the Orangeburg County Chamber of Commerce. Photography was by Sebastian Thomas.

Buzz60 has more.

This year the organization raised thousands of dollars.

Participants also enjoyed a special, electrifying jazz performance by Mr. Prince William Dejou Piere.

It was also Miss Luvina R. Robinson’s birthday, bringing together two celebrations in one.
