The City of Orangeburg will host the annual Queen of Roses Scholarship Pageant on Saturday, March 29, at 3pm at Stevenson Auditorium, 979 Middleton St. Admission is $5 cash at the door. Doors open at 1:30pm.

Hope Anglemyer

Three young ladies will be competing for over $3200 in college scholarships.

Contestants are Hope Love Anglemyer of Blythewood, Lainey Grace Baggette of Manning, and Emily Abigail Crider of Orangeburg.

Lainey Baggette

Anglemyer, 21, daughter of Craig and Michelle Anglemyer, is a junior at Columbia College studying dance education. After college, she plans to become a dance teacher and professional dancer. She will perform a dance to “It Feels Like the End” by Mikky Ekko.

Emily Crider

Baggette, 17, daughter of Bennie and Alison Baggette, is a senior at Laurence Manning Academy and will be studying biology at the University of South Carolina this fall. Her plans are to study dermatology and open her own private practice. She will perform a pointe dance to “SAIL” by Awolnation.

Crider, 18, daughter of Gene and Wendy Crider, is a senior at Edisto High School and will receive her associates of arts degree in May from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. She will be attending the College of Charleston this fall studying middle grades education with hopes to teach 6th grade world history and English. She will sing “I’m Not That Girl” from “Wicked.”

The Queen of Roses will receive a $1500 college scholarship as well as a crown, sash, trophy, and a coronation bouquet of roses. The first runner-up will receive a $750 college scholarship, the second runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship, and the talent winner will receive a $500 scholarship.

South Carolina Civil Rights Museum curator and founder Cecil J. Williams is asking Orangeburg County and the City of Orangeburg to help fund the museum’s operations at its new location planned for Railroad Corner.

The Princess of Roses Pageant will be held in conjunction with the Queen of Roses Scholarship Pageant. Twenty-three girls between the ages of 4 and 16 will vie for five Princess of Roses titles. They will appear along with the newly crowned Queen of Roses at the Festival of Roses on Saturday, May 3, in the Edisto Memorial Gardens. A presentation of the title holders will occur at noon at the Centennial Park stage.
