A new pilot project has been launched to support the mental health and wellness of South Carolina’s first responders through the innovative SC PeerConnect App.
This fully funded initiative provides private, anonymous support available 24/7 from any mobile device.
SC PeerConnect, developed through the SC Public Safety Wellness Initiative in partnership with First Response Mental Health, provides first responders with proactive, continuous support by connecting them to peer support teams, psychologists, chaplains and mental health professionals.
The platform is designed to prevent neglect, reduce the stigma associated with mental health and normalize mental well-being discussions within the community.
The Medical University of South Carolina took over Orangeburg’s Regional Medical Center in 2023 with the intention of helping the financially strapped rural hospital survive in increasingly challenging times for the health care industry. MUSC leaders say steps have been taken over this time to improve the hospital’s quality of care, financial stability, viability and community image.
Additionally, it offers extensive health and wellness resources, self-assessment tools and access to local support teams, ensuring comprehensive care for first responders.
