Fire burned a vacant house owned by Claflin University around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to an Orangeburg Department of Public Safety incident report.
ODPS firefighters were on scene of the 256 Clark St. fire at 1:34 p.m. The last firefighter left the scene at 3:18 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke and flames coming from the rear of the one-story residence.
No one was inside of the house.
The house was unsecured at the rear, with all other windows and the front door covered with plywood, according to the report.
The fire appeared to have started on the back porch, but the cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation, the report states.
The home is owned by Claflin University and wasn’t in use.

According to the report, the university was planning to remove the home and replace it with a new structure for the school in the near future.
Neighbors believe people were smoking drugs at the house, the report states.
Before the fire, the home and contents were valued at $65,000.
The fire consumed between 50 to 75% of the house.
