When The Honorable and Mrs. Edgar W. Dickson of Orangeburg flip the ceremonial switch Sunday to illuminate Memorial Plaza, they will officially kick off the holiday season in Orangeburg.
The Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. on the Square in downtown Orangeburg.

Mayor Michael C. Butler will also welcome Pastor Todd A. Brown of New Mount Zion Baptist Church to lead the invocation.
Entertainment will be provided by the Orangeburg Area Youth Choir and Fusion Dance Academy.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, little ones who need to find out early if they’re on the naughty or nice list can interact with Santa and Mrs. Claus during their first visit in Orangeburg from the North Pole.
The City of Orangeburg Parks and Recreation Department will serve free hot chocolate.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for seating.
Lessie Gayle Dickson is a retired Sheridan Elementary School teacher who subsequently taught at Orangeburg Prep and St. Andrews Methodist Church.
Ed Dickson is an active/retired resident Circuit Court Judge for Orangeburg, Calhoun and Dorchester counties.
They are assisted by their 5-year-old granddaughter, Berit Dickson, who enjoys the Christmas lights in Edisto Gardens.
