Now that we are approaching the end of the year, as well as my exit from coaching, including 22 years at South Carolina State – my beloved alma mater — I’d like to, at this time, say thank you to everyone who made my time at SCSU and my participation in this community and beyond special for my family and me, as well as my various staffs and teams.
I can honestly say that I had no intention of announcing my retirement. I just wanted to quietly slip out the back door with little fanfare. I was afraid to face all my friends and colleagues for an entire year, knowing it would be the last time I would be interacting with so many of you. I had tears in my eyes the entire 2023 season.
So I say a heartfelt thanks to all of you. But I am not planning to disappear, and with God’s grace, I look forward to my continued involvement and engagement with the university and community. I will continue to support campus and community endeavors and working with all of you in any way possible.

I urge you to welcome my successor, Coach Chennis Berry, along with Dr. Nathan Cochran, our new athletics director, to our community. Please show them the same love and support you have shown me and my staff over the years. Please know that SCSU will need this entire community’s support to be competitive in these transfer portal/NIL times.
