Fire destroyed Chaplin’s country store near Neeses on Friday.
“Chaplin’s,” established in 1898, was reported on fire at 1:37 a.m. It’s located at 4051 Ninety Six Road.
Orangeburg County Fire District Director Teddy Wolfe said the commercial property was closed.
Several agencies responded to the blaze.
The first firefighters arrived at 1:49 a.m. and saw flames coming out of the building, he said.
The building was made of heavy timber, he added.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
The following agencies responded: Bolentown Fire Department, Neeses Fire Department, North Fire Department, Norway Fire Department, Orangeburg County EMS, Orangeburg County Fire District, Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office and the Pine Hill Fire Department.
