BAMBERG – While many Bamberg County residents are still reeling from this year’s tumultuous storm activity, the Bamberg County Emergency Management Division has partnered with FEMA to open a Disaster Recovery Center at the Bamberg County Library. The DRC will operate from 8 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, until the close of business on Monday, Nov. 11.
FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers are temporary offices that provide support to impacted areas and communities after natural disasters. FEMA representatives will be on site to answer questions and assist citizens with the application and submission process. Other disaster support partners such as the Small Business Administration and the Red Cross may also be present to provide helpful information.
Disaster Recovery Centers also will open in Kershaw and Laurens counties to provide in-person assistance to South Carolinians affected by Hurricane Helene.

Those locations are: Kershaw County Government Center, 515 Walnut St., Camden, SC 29020, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. -10; and Laurens County Public Library, 1017 W. Main St., Laurens, SC 29360, 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Nov. 7-10; closed Nov. 4-6.
The Orangeburg location, Orangeburg YMCA, was open Nov. 1-3.
Additional centers are scheduled to open in the state and you can visit any open center to meet with representatives of FEMA, the state of South Carolina and the U.S. Small Business Administration. No appointment is needed.

Homeowners and renters in Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Cherokee, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Greenville, Greenwood, Hampton, Jasper, Kershaw, Laurens, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Orangeburg, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg, Union and York counties and the Catawba Indian Nation can apply for federal assistance.
The quickest way to apply is to go online to DisasterAssistance.gov. You can also apply using the FEMA App for mobile devices or calling toll-free 800-621-3362. The telephone line is open every day and help is available in many languages. If you use a relay service, such as Video Relay Service (VRS), captioned telephone or other service, give FEMA your number for that service.
