The classic Christmas film comes to the stage Friday, Dec. 15, and Saturday, Dec. 16, beginning at 7 p.m. with a matinee Sunday, Dec. 17, at 3 p.m.

“This year marks the 20th anniversary of the film,” Juniors Director Mitzie DeAloia said. “The junior version (of the Broadway show) is shorter, but it feels like a story that should be told by children…for children.”

DeAloia said she was not familiar with the original Broadway production that opened during the 2010 season, and continued through the holidays.

Elf The Musical Jr. cast rehearse at the Bluebird Theatre. The show is set to open Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. and tickets are $12.

“I knew the movie, but not the show,” DeAloia said. “Now, all I do is go around and sing the songs. All the music brings a smile to your face.”

Buddy also comes in contact with Jovie (played by Emily Crider), a young mall clerk who has lost her Christmas spirit.

“Doing a show this time of year can be difficult because of all the other distractions of the season,” DeAloia said. “It’s a very young cast, but they are doing a great job.”
