The community is invited to help Project Life: Positeen founder and Director Liz Zimmerman Keitt celebrate her 86th birthday and 32 years of service to the non-profit.
Keitt said the event is less about her and more about raising awareness of the tutoring program and children’s needs.
“I want to invite everyone who knows Project Life or Liz Keitt. It’s about Project Life. We need Project Life for our young people,” she said. Past participants and their families are also welcome to come out and celebrate Project Life.
Keitt noted that COVID affected students’ learning. It also affected giving to nonprofits like Project Life: Positeen.
“It’s hard to keep a non-profit going,” she said.
The organization is focused on empowering youth through tutoring, mentoring, community service, the NAACP and the church. Students from K-5 through grade 12 are tutored.

The organization recently received two awards at the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice Community Service Division, Legacy of Leader Awards Gala in Columbia.
Keitt was presented with the Lifetime Dedication and Impact Award, while the Lowcountry Youth Visionary Award went to Aries Moore, a 7th grader.
“We have been blessed. We have really been blessed,” Keitt said.
She would like to see Project Life add two more tutoring sites in the future.
The birthday celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Downtown Orangeburg Revitalization Association Pavilion on Russell Street, across from the square.
There will be light food. People are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket to sit on.
