A Cordova teen discusses faith, forgiveness and fear in a devotional that he independently published.

Sean Nimmons, 18, wrote “Living A Godly Life: 30-Day Devotional” when he was 15, but the book was published this past July.

Nimmons said getting his book published was a long but worthwhile journey.

“I thought it could be a start off for me writing books. I read a Billy Graham devotional before. I just thought this type of book can be a blessing to others,” he said.

The book carries through the reader through 30 days of Biblical scripture and examples of how individuals can practically apply each one in their lives. A prayer also accompanies each scripture, with readers also able to write in their own personal prayer to God.

“This book can help you in many ways – peer pressure or whatever’s going on in the world. It can help you to be a better person, know God better, or know a situation better than you thought of before,” Nimmons said.

The teen said it was important to include prayers in the devotional.

“A person can pray to God to help them through the situation they’re going through. That helps them get closer to God, too,” he said.

Day one begins with how to practice “godly retaliation” and leads up to the last devotional on day 30, which instructs readers on the importance of being faithful in well-doing.

Nimmons said his reason for writing the book was simple, not selfish. He wanted readers to benefit from it as much as he did when writing it.

“I pray that their relationship with God is closer and they have a better understanding of situations in life,” he said.

Nimmons is a graduate of South Carolina Connections Academy. He is currently enrolled at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.

He is the son of Teresa Govan and Tony Nimmons, both of whom have supported him in writing his book.

“They’ve been very supportive. They helped me financially. They helped me get the book out there, and my grandma, Eva, helped me, too,” he said.

Nimmons said his goal is to be an example for others.

“I pray that I am an example to young people and not just young people, but everybody. Kids younger than me, older than me, grownups, elderly, I want to be an example for everyone,” he said.
