On June 3, Dr. John H Connor III received his PhD in business administration, honorary causa by the Trinity International University of Ambassadors School of Business in Braselton, Ga. Connor also received his business coaching certifications.

A native of Long Island, N.Y., he relocated to Orangeburg as a teen. Connor is a 1983 graduate of Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School and pursued advanced studies at Claflin University in Orangeburg. He holds a bachelor of science in business administration from Trident University in Cypress, Calif., and a Master of Business Administration from Strayer University in Baltimore.

Connor is a retired senior non-commissioned officer with the United States military with missions with the 4th ID Mechanized units of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 3rd ID Mechanized units of Swineford, Germany, TRADOC (drill sergeant, lead instructor) and USARECC serving as a top-tier recruiter. He also served as personal driver for the late Gen. Colin Powell. His field assignments included Europe, the Middle East, Turkey and Africa, as well as various parts of the United States.

His military awards and decorations include Bronze Star, Army Achievement Medals, Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, SW Asia Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, and several Advanced Leadership Medals.

Connor also served in the community as a high school coach in football and basketball and as a mentor for at-risk young men and women. He continues to serve the homeless population and his Community Alliance Organization is a pacesetter for new platforms for economic development and restoration within the community.

He worked with Benedict College, the state’s Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force, and other local police departments throughout the state. As part of his law enforcement training, he earned an associate degree in criminal justice from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Connor is a state constable.

Connor is the grandson of the late John H Connor Sr. and Oneatha Ellis Connor of Orangeburg.
