More than 300 people converged upon the Edwardtown community in Norway for the third annual Walk the Block for Breast Cancer Awareness event on Oct. 7.
Gifted by Tonya hosted the event, which was held under the theme “Celebrating our Sheroes.” It included the participation of vendors and more than 30 breast cancer survivors.
“The third annual Walk the Block was a great success. … The event began with prayer. Then the survivors made their way to the pink rose runway, where they did their survivor strut,” event organizer Tonya James said.
“There were 34 registered survivors ranging from 27 years of survival to Mrs. Sharry Golson, the most recent survivor who just rang the (survivors’) bell in August,” James said.
To represent the three years of the walk’s existence, the Slingshot Riders, SCAT Riders and We Ride Motorcycle Club did three laps around the block.

Southern soul singer Big Sambo of Norway and The Promise Land Band provided musical entertainment during the event, which also included door prizes and a Kids Zone sponsored by Save the Children Action Network.
“There was fun for everyone,” James said.
Joann Stroman, an 18-year breast cancer survivor from Cope, was this year’s speaker.
