Cecil Williams to be recognized at Storyfest 2023
AIKEN — The South Carolina Writers Association will recognize the work of Orangeburg publisher and photographer Cecil Williams during Storyfest 2023, a three-day writing conference that will include more than two dozen authors, agents, and editors in downtown Columbia, from Nov. 3 through 5.

Williams captured the Civil Rights movement in South Carolina beginning in the 1950s. Joshua Parks, the author of The Green Book of South Carolina: A Guide to African American Cultural Sites, will join Williams.
The event will also include talks and classes by writers from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia, including Jason Mott, the National Book Award-winning writer of Hell of a Book; Janisse Ray, the activist and author of Ecology of a Cracker Childhood; Ashley Poston, the New York Times bestselling romance author of The Seven Year Slip and The Dead Romantics; Susan M. Boyer, the author of a dozen popular Lowcountry mysteries; and Columbia author Claire Jimenez, whose just-published novel, What Happened to Ruthy Ramirez, is a USA Today must-read title.

Some of the South’s top publishers will attend, including Hub City Press, Arcadia Publishing, and the University of South Carolina Press.
The event, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, will include master classes on Friday, free talks, panels and keynotes, manuscript critiques, craft classes, and meetings with sought-after editors and agents such as Amy Collins, whose firm conducts writing boot camps for Writers Digest.
Other speakers include Atlanta novelist Julia Franks, New York Times bestselling author Charlie Lovett, Greenville Poet Laureate Glenis Redmond, award-winning investigative journalist Phoebe Zerwick, author and USC English department head Andrew Geyer, acclaimed short story writer Halle Hill, and Hub City Press publishers Meg Reid and Kate McMullen.
