Orangeburg’s iconic Biddie Banquet already had a drive-thru and no plans for another when a car crashed into the restaurant early Friday.
A 2019 Ford Taurus crashed into the main dining room at 1 a.m. as it was being chased by the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover.
The Ford was traveling on U.S. Highway 301 north when it ran off the road to the left and struck the restaurant, located at 220 John C. Calhoun Drive, she said.
The driver was taken into custody and no injuries were reported.
No one was in the restaurant when the crash occurred, Biddie Banquet Manager Thomas Foxworth said.
Repair work got underway a few hours after the crash.
Biddie Banquet remained open Friday for walk-up and drive-thru orders only.

Foxworth said he may close off the first dining room, where the crash occurred, and open the second and third dining rooms for customers on Monday.
Details about the crash weren’t immediately available from the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office early Friday afternoon.
