A Calhoun County Museum and Cultural Center employee has been named the museum’s new director.
Calhoun County Council unanimously agreed to appoint Jeremy Stoudenmire. He was unanimously recommended for the position by the county’s Historical Commission.
“I can’t wait to see where the next chapter of the Calhoun County Museum and Cultural Center takes us,” Stoudenmire said.
“I want to thank the Calhoun County Historical Commission, Calhoun County Council and, more importantly, the citizens of Calhoun County for trusting me with this jewel of a museum,” he said.
He served as the interim director following the retirement of longtime museum director Debbie Roland in May 2023.
Stoudenmire thanked Roland “for her leadership and teaching over the last eight years.”

Calhoun County Historical Commission member Jennie Redmond told council three candidates were interviewed May 6 and Stoudenmire was selected.
“He came with a lot of plusses that we thought elevated him above everyone else,” Redmond said. “We are very confident in what Jeremy can do. He has worked in the last year as interim director in less-than-ideal conditions. He has done a very, very good job.”
Councilman Cecil Thornton said, “I strongly believe when you are able to hire people who live here and work here, more times than not it is a positive thing for the community and the unity of this county.”
Council Chairman James Haigler echoed Thornton’s sentiment.
“I believe in local people because I think they care about us,” instead of just building a resume, Haigler said.
Stoudenmire has served as the public relations and events manager of the museum for close to eight years.
Prior to joining the museum full-time, he worked as an intern from June 2014 through September 2015.
Prior to working full-time at the museum, Stoudenmire served as a management associate and set-up coordinator with Kwest Mortgage Group LLC in Orangeburg.
Stoudenmire graduated from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College in 2012 with an associate degree and received his bachelor’s degree in history from Coastal Carolina University in 2015.
