Everyone loved Avery Davis, the 6-year-old who died Saturday following a hunting accident.

Avery’s parents, Jeremy and Cindy Davis, talked on Saturday evening about their son and the grief they’re experiencing.

“There is so much to say about this bright soul and big heart, but I don’t know where to begin,” Jeremy Davis said in a social media post, used with his permission for this story.

“Everyone that knew this boy of mine loved him. He was a live-wire that was known all across the country for his silly ways and his love for outdoors,” his father wrote.

The shooting accident took place around 8:30 a.m. Friday in a wooded area on Whisperwood Road, which is in Orangeburg County near Cameron.

The Orangeburg boy died at Prisma Health Richland in Columbia on Saturday.

“I know we aren’t supposed to question our God, but I’m struggling not to. The only thing I can think of is that God had some good hounds in heaven and needed a handler for them. Or maybe the Good Lord wanted the ‘Outdoors with Avery’ show to be hosted in the best place possible,” his father said.

The Calhoun Academy student was an organ donor.

“We are praying that he can save as many children as possible and I’m honored that his legacy can live on through others. I couldn’t be prouder of my son and rest assured he will never be forgotten,” his father said.

“He was one of the toughest houndsmen, fishermen, outdoorsmen and athlete that I’ve ever known,” his father wrote.

Life of the party.

Never met a stranger.

That’s how Cindy Davis describes her son. She called him “Doodle Bugg” and “Shugga Man.”

South Carolina State University trustees unanimously approved a resolution last week that could lead to a settlement with the former president.

He was the “most caring, loving boy,” his mother said. “He had a heart of gold,” and always wanted to be a helper whenever he could.

“He was the life of the party everywhere he went,” she added.

Denmark Technical College’s president says the college is working to engage, educate and empower students for the future.

She said Avery enjoyed swimming, fishing, hunting, playing football and baseball and riding dirt bikes.

He enjoyed rooting for the Clemson Tigers.

She noted that in Avery’s six years, he’d hunted in approximately 15 states.

Cherishing his memories are his siblings Aiden, 16, and AnnaBelle, 11, and a host of family and friends.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
