The U.S. Highway 301 bridge replacement project over the South Fork of the Edisto River is near completion and the bridge is open to traffic, according to the S.C. Department of Transportation.
“There are scheduled daily temporary lane closures for north and southbound directions as the contractor finishes paving and placing new pavement markings,” SCDOT Director of Strategic Communications Ginny T. Jones said. “All work should be completed over the next several weeks.”
The bridge replacement project was let out April 2022 and awarded to United Infrastructure Group, Inc. in May 2022. The bridge heading south into Bamberg was replaced.
The bridge, which was built in 1922, was deemed structurally deficient. The bridge has been upgraded over the years. It was widened in 1951 and widened again in 1973.
The bridge is located approximately three miles north of Bamberg.

The project cost about $10.8 million, paid for through the Federal Aid Bridge Replacement Program.
In addition to the U.S. 301 bridge, the Bobcat Landing bridge near Bamberg was also replaced.
The actual cost was below the initially projected $2.3 million.
The Bobcat Landing Road bridge is west of U.S. 301, approximately 150 feet south of the U.S. 301 bridge, and provides direct access to the Bobcat Landing boat ramp west of U.S. 301.
The project also included realigning Bobcat Landing Road to maintain and improve access to Bobcat Landing from U.S. 301.
Great Falls-based United Infrastructure Group was contracted to handle the project.
